My only experience with this is when I walked up to the counter to check-in and the clerk couldn't find my reservation. I pulled out my Priceline confirmation and found it was for the following night. The gentleman immediately said, "That's okay, I'll just switch it for you, it's a good thing you weren't here last night, we were full." So the clerk did me a big favor.
