Counting on pickpockets and other theives to be too stupid or lazy to use cards is a strategy I had not considered. Glad it worked for you.
Why do you need to limit the purchases when anything hither than $1K would not go thru? So why bother to ask an impossible feat to lower a $10K daily limit down when $10K is NEVER going to happen? Who is dense here? Fido or the customer?

Cards are not as common in Europe as in US. Whipping out a card especially a card does not have PIN capability, to make a large sum of purchase in any shop, I guarantee you the clerks would want to see your ID. Heck British Museum even wanted to see an ID for a 6 GBP purchase of a book. Just sayin.

Besides, you would not be out of the money should your card is fraudulently used. You do need a police report to prove cards are stolen. There are times cards are simply lost, even if you are not being pickpocketed. You can spend time to worry this and that regardless what others have been saying. Your life.

I am not saying you use overseas toll free number here inside US. You use the toll free number for the country you are currently in. And yes, Fido reps came on the phone very quickly and yes, they can patch you to the Cash Management side.

I have called Fido in Livorno Italy using the toll free number for Italy when the ATM at BNP in Aix en Provence ate my card. The machine did not give me the 100 euro withdrawn, just spit out a chit on attempted transaction.
I had to fight with the arrogant BNP teller to get the card back from the machine.
When I checked the Fido account online, I saw 100 euro was withdrawn and then a credit was issued to offset that, PLUS 1 euro charge (which turned out to be the Visa network fee according to Fido). I had the foresight to make a print out of it just in case.
The next day the credit disappeared from my account leaving me 100 euro in the hole.
By that time we were already in the port of call - Livorno in Italy. When we got to town center at Livorno I called Fido Italy toll free number and explained the situation to the brokerage rep who then in turn patched me to the rep at the banking side. I am sure by now you know Fido's banking function is handled quite differently than Schwab's. The card is issued by PNC bank but the administration is by another company which name now escapes me. And, your money is deposited in 1/2 a doz banks in a screwy percentage distribution just FYI.

Anyway the check card side rep took the information and said they would investigate what happened.

Back on the ship I did an online chat with Fido as well as emailed them on the incident.

2 days later I got an email reply explained why the 100 euro credit was reversed - the explanation was BNP did not use the same authorization to generate the credit which therefore had no match on anything being withdrawn... but I dont believe this is the real culprit because BNP did not manually issued a credit - it is automatically done by the system.
Fido also give explanation on the 1 euro purchase - yes, it listed as purchase on the account, as the 1% Visa network fee. Sounds reasonable but this is the ONLY time I have ever encountered such a fee explicitly showing up versus built in the exchange rate.

The worldwide toll free numbers Fido have, is a very handy feature in my opinion. YMMV.
