I recommend airport pickup - much easier to get on the motoray system. Pleasant drive as well through the Lune Valley in Cumbria
So I forgot to mention (for the sake of brevity? humbleness?) that I'll be using my corporate booking code with Enterprise. Confirmed no one-way drop fee. Reserved a "Class E Intermediate Automatic" for £42.

The Waverly Station location opens at 0700 on Sunday. And I'm staying at the Sheraton... so more convenient for me to go there rather than out to the airport.

Thank you very much for the Visit Cumbria link. The drive through that area does look lovely. Living in California, I enjoy long scenic drives, which is why I feel driving myself to Liverpool is the best option.

Appreciate everyones responses and guidance.
