Doesn't sound right. How did you book your room?

Typically you can either book the reservation online then call HGP to apply the DSU, or take care of the entire booking through HGP.

As far as I know, you cannot apply a DSU through the property directly. The property can, however, limit the availability of points only and points+cash rooms. Perhaps they are able to limit the number of available DSU's as well.
