Ahhh... I had no clue. Looked up some news articles from that time; seems like it was really serious?! As can be imagined, all our news here in the US has been about the upcoming Presidential election. Getting any reasonable international news can be difficult.
How are the main roads (M6 and...?) in the affected area? I realized I can get an inexpensive rental car, with no one-way drop fee, so I'm thinking of just driving myself. Pickup at Waverly Station in Edinburgh and drop-off at Liverpool airport. That drive should take about 4 hours? Gives me maximum flexibility on time.
