In many cases you'd get *better* food than if the place had in-house room service. I used to stay in a place in DC that was next to an Italian restaurant which provided the room service. It was both better and cheaper than most typical hotel room service, and there was no difference in how the service worked. You dialed an in-house number, someone took your order, they bring it to your room on a tray, etc.
