So YOU want an SFO-SYD-SFO

and for the other two you want SYD-SFO

Correct?

Id book yourself SFO-SYD-SFO and you will fly outbound and return..

and book them SYD-SFO xxx-SYD and just not take the xxx-SYD flight.

As a note, the XXX-SYD might be SFO-SYD; LAX-SYD; DFW-SYD or even MTY or MEX-SYD (or replace SYD with MEL, etc) You are just looking for a flight they will not fly to combione with the 'real' flight (SYD-SFO) to give the lowest total cost. I have found some creative open jaw fares using Mexico..fyi

While this might be technically against the rules, it is common. Things change, lie happens...lots of reasons to not take onwards flights....

Just ensure you are all 3 on that key flight (and as others note it must be the outvound segment for them if you will be skipping the return)- then call to get seats. Note that even if you are on the same record, no guarantees on seats together... so IMO it isnt worth it to book all in one record.
