Hell, even back to the storied days of the wretched NW that couldn't sell its abominable front cabin if it tried there was the space available line with the caveat that silvers will rarely be upgraded.
WFBF! It's an airline not a charity

PMNW wasn't all that bad.

While the onboard experience wasn't great, remember the old egg shells J seats, I much preferred BOS->AMS->XXX as opposed to BOS->LHR->XXX.

BTW, how is a promise from an airline in big bold letters on their website making it a charity.

Loyalty dying is just hyperbole. When someone subjectively prefers the F experience on DL as opposed to its competitors and opts to buy F instead of relying on upgrades, how is that not loyalty to a brand? Similarly, I prefer Ruth's Chris over Morton's so should Ruth's Chris feel obligated to upgrade my petite filet mignon to a regular filet mignon because I eat there more often? Some of the comments here would suggest yes, they should, and that the waiters/waitresses are systematically and routinely depriving me of that "upgraded" steak and giving it to their colleagues and friends. With the exception of a few anecdotal instances, I'm just not seeing it.
