You can try complaining, but my guess is that you won't get very far.

Unfortunately, "star ratings" are subjective, and therefore are often different from rating agency to rating agency. You would need to prove "fraud", which would basically come down to you saying it's "not a nice place" and Hotwire saying "it is a nice place."

Did you happen to write down the amenities offered before you purchased? You might have better luck calling the hotel to make sure that ALL the amenities represented will be available during your stay (for instance, did Hotwire show a pool and the pool will be closed, did Hotwire show a restaurant and the restaurant is being renovated, etc). I would also re-read the definition that Hotwire give for a 4 star hotel, and see if the hotel you were given fits the criteria.

Are you actually disappointed with the hotel you were given or are you "disapponted" in learning that the hotel isn't rated as high with other agencies as you thought. I would try to read some reviews of the hotel first (available on the net, if you can't find post back and i'll try to help) to learn more about the actual property... you may be pleasantly surprised. I've stayed in some 3* properties that i thought were fantastic, and some 4* properties i'd rather not return to.

Out of curiousity, what is the rate you paid and what is the rate at Orbitz?

Let us know your end result (found out the hotel will be good, spoke w/ Hotwire and got satisfaction, etc).
