Actually I don't have many data points. I do international nonstops and increasingly buy G A P fares on domestic itineraries. So I don't have a lot of experience with upgrades at the gate. OTOH, I interpreted what I was told as a statement that the GA intended to follow YBYL. It seemed to be a statement of general policy rather than a concern about leaving on time, as the flight looked like it would board on time (or even early) and didn't appear to be overbooked. Maybe MSP GAs are more flexible than my impression.
