You are eligible for a refund on paid seat selection if you just do OLCI/airport checkin.

You will only be able to select seats from what is available now. At OLCI more seats may become available, so I suggest you try to do OLCI at T-24.

I think you'd be wasting your time asking for a free upgrade because of this.
