Just did a bunch of airfare searches on Expedia and each time at least one of the majors (besides NW) didn't come up unless you selected only that airline.

Default set at lowest price. In most cases, the omitted carriers were lower priced than the highest fare displayed on initial search that didn't limit to any specific carrier.

CO never came up unless specifically selected.

Examples:

ATL-PDX 3/10/03-3/20/03 only DL, HP, Frontier and AA came up
</font>
I did that and got $318 DL with the same list of other airlines at higher fares. Selecting only CO, I got $363 and higher.

UA $188 and others higher. Only CO, $203.

Searching only CO, CO's fare is lower than all airlines displayed in first search

I thought this was illegal???[/B]</font>
I got DL $397, UA $402, AA $414, US $445, and CO $448. Selecting only CO is $413 or higher.

I don't see a problem with this. A list of all the airlines with all of their fares would be a tremendous list. In every example, a non-airline-specific search yields the lowest fare. Along with the lowest fare are some other possibilities.

If someone wants to choose a specific carrier even if it's not the lowest fare, then that person can choose that airline in the search. Or do both, one search for the lowest fare on any airline and another search on a favorite airline, and then decide if airline favoritism is worth the fare difference. Sorry, I just don't see a problem here.
