Welcome to Flyertalk.
The Platinum Card will not really cost $450 the first year.
$450 annual fee
-200 airline fee reimbursement, 2016
-200 airline fee reimbursement, 2017
$ 50 net cost
There are other benefits which you may be able to use, such as the Global Entry fee reimbursement ($100) to further reduce the fee. In practice the Airline Fee reimbursement benefit is much more liberal than the written terms suggest. You will qualify even if you never set foot in an airplane.
The Platinum Card will also give you free admission to Centurion lounges, Delta Skyclubs (when flying DL), Airspace lounges, and a Priority Pass membership valid for entry at hundreds of other airport lounges workdwide. (You will not be able to use AA or UA lounges.)
