Pre-Paid Rate on expired credit car

I recently stayed in one of the Marriott hotel which I booked the prepaid rate through Marriott website. However the credit card stored with my profile was expired and I never realized that. The booking went through, everything is confirmed and I made my stay. When I check in I also handed a valid card. Everything is fine so far. Until couple days later I found the charge on my credit card was almost doubled. Called the hotel and they said because my credit is invalid when I made booking so I have to pay rack rate. I then ask if my credit card is invalid why you don't decline the booking and notify me. Her response is we got too many cards and we are too busy to do that. I Also asked her where in your website it states that if my credit card is invalid for prepaid rate I have to pay rack rate? The manager told me it is everywhere on Marriott website. Then I ask her if she can show me where exactly it is, she said she don't remember.

My question is do they have right to charge me the money I never authorized? If I book a room and agree to pay $60, do they have right to charge me $120 without my agreement?
