Sixt Los Cabos (Airport Location)

Last weekend, I went down to Cabo and had reserved a car from Sixt. When I got to the rental car facility, they had all sorts of smaller cars available, but the manager told me that "those are not available to rent," and that he had assigned me a car already. Now, I know I was expecting to get a small car, so when he said that I was getting a Chevy Aveo, I didn't think much about it because that is what I paid for.

However, he then took my credit card for the hold, and was interested to find that he placed a hold for 23,000MXN ($1300). But, the car that he showed me as a 2014 Aveo, but it had lived a hard life. Dents all around and a rather large dent in the center of the trunk deck. This dent was because the latch mechanism for the trunk was bad, so it required "extra force" (read: slamming the trunk repeatedly). Also, the interior was all torn up and various stains.

The best part was that the car only had 1/10 of a tank of gas, which required me to go to the closest Pemex and fill up--which forced me to head into San Jose del Cabo instead of taking the toll road. During the time that I had the car, there were all sorts of mysterious rattles, and the engine, I think was on it's way out as I was flooring it going uphill heading towards Cabo on MEX-1, and not going any faster.

At return, the agent checking the car in indicates that "there is new damage" to the car, at which point, he shows me that it was the trunk deck lid...the same place with the large dent from before. Luckily enough, I had taken pictures at check-out, which I showed him and his manager, to which he replied, "it's ok."

So, I suppose I'll end up getting a damage invoice from Sixt and the whole experience really gave me a bad taste about Sixt's operations.

PS: If Supplemental Liability/Third Party Liability is required in Mexico, then why is it an option, instead of bundling it into the base rate?
