There have been multiple stories of connections taking longer than expected and I've been on multiple flights into PVG that were an hour late simply from airborne winds. Put those together and it feels rather tight.
It would help to know further details such as the identity of the airlines, class of travel, any elite status with partner airlines, whether everything is on a single ticket/PNR, the nature of the group (elderly, persons with mobility issues, young children?), etc.
With separate totally nonchangeable tickets and checked bags, I certainly would be reluctant to try this.
