Sorry to beat this issue to death. There are some excellent suggestions posted in response to my question.
This morning I bought a different brand of "Type C" charger and cable to use while on my next 77W tomorrow, with a 787 returning next week. With luck, the change of manufacturer might solve the issue of the phone not charging on the 77W and the 787.
The question that still baffles me is why there is not a charging problem while on AA's 320s and 321s using the same phone, cord and adapter.
I realize that the electrical set up on the Airbus is simpler than on the other type aircraft. However, it seems odd that the cord and adapter (plus one more cord and adapter that I bought of the same manufacturer) will charge the phone at my house, at my office, and at hotels, but will not charge on the 77W and the 787.
I will know soon enough after trying out the different brand new connector and cord if DFW is clear tomorrow for my flight.
Thanks again for all the helpful comments.
