I believe someone posted on here that he arrived at his gate after it had closed due to a short short connection. 3 other pax were told it was closed and weren't accepting anymore pax until the GGL member turned up and they reopened the flight and let all 4 on.

The gate agents said something about "oh, he's the one we were waiting for?"
