Note: you cannot combine a Joker with the GUF1/GUF2. TAs need to have availability in the lowest 'next' cabin to make the booking whereas BAEC GUF bookings require award seats in the higher class.
You can definitely combine joker and GUFs, if you book with BA. I have done it. It is to a redemption seat.

The TPs and Avios via TAs is not a glitch. They have no access to redemption seats and can only book you into revenue seats.
Going for the GUF at the cost of 40TPs is no-brained. Go for it.
