You can switch the number at check in but not on the app or website. You will need to tell the check in agent and be very specific about it, they have to recode the airline designator for the FF number.

Trust in me that I did a lot of homework. If you travel heavily on CI metal, don't credit your miles to DL, it's 3rd tier partner and you are way better off take the credit on the China Airline program. DL is purely revenue based and CI is not 100%, you can get xx % of the flown miles based on the fare class. DL used to be better a few years ago until they switched to the revenue based systems. If you fly a lot on CI metal, the DL status won't get you much at all... No upgrade, no preferred seats. Only thing is early boarding and lounge access if you are Skyteam Gold or above.

A lot of local Taiwanese and Chinese won't fly CI because of their past safety record. Most people tend to go with EVA, so CI's program is better in an effort to counter that.
