Woke up at 4:30am this morning to try to smoke some pulled pork. I didn't know you needed something called a plate setter (which deflects heat for smoking). The BGE is a smoker...why is the world is this little piece not included???

Anyway I have a vented pizza pan that barely didn't fit so I added some foil around it to try to make it work. Then in I am sure what was hysterically newbie fashion I managed to get the fire started but at that point the comedy of errors began. I had this great idea to raise the grill so I could put a drip pan on the pizza below with cider and beer for moisture. As I said the pizza pan didn't quite fit and when everything was set up it slipped dumping the liquid over the coals leaving me blinded and coughing through vinegar and beer smoke.

After disassembling my ill conceived raised grill I somehow managed to keep the coals going so I just put the pizza pan back in place with the grill an inch or so above it and stuck the rubbed pork shoulder on the grill. The pizza pan is having an interesting effect on the smoke (it blocks a lot of the air flow) but I have the grill at a steady 240 degrees...all seems good for now but I am probably going to be babysitting this thing for the next 11 hours. At least the weather is going to be spectacular .
