You can stay at the airport Intercontinental (hotel is conversion of the airport administration building and bellmen will take your luggage to the check-in counter). Or any of the Sandton hotels are safe (I stayed at the Sandton Intercontinental and enjoyed it, recommended over the Hilton and others as it is attached to the shopping center so you don't have to walk outside on any of the streets if you don't want to).
