Looking at a trip to Rio and trying to figure out where to stay. My options are (1) the Hilton Barra, (2) the Alma de Santa Guest House in Santa Teresa, and (3) the Lemon Spirit Hostel in Leblon.
It seems like options 2 and 3 would be closer to the main attractions. Would the Hilton Barra be too far outside of the city for one to experience the "real" Rio? I'm leaning toward the Hilton but would be willing to stay at the hostels in Santa Teresa or Leblon if it would significantly improve my experience in Rio. Any thoughts?
Barra totally sucks. Do NOT stay in Barra, EVER! If it were me, the choice would be Leblon which is where I live, actually. I would never consider Santa Theresa but I am obligated to say that many people really like staying there. Artsy and bohemian are the two words connected at the hip to that neighborhood. If those words mean nothing to you then Leblon is the choice.
