I was on the NZ codeshare, and by entering the VA record locator had the option for an Upgrade Me cash bid. I bid just over the minimum, and failed.

My partner was on the VA flight number on a flexi fare, so submitted an upgrade request using Velocity point. That too failed.

And yes, the business cabin remained entirely empty. Really, really bizarre.
