I did, and I feel you'd better have a night stay in Napoli, since the last connecting train going south seems to leave Caserta at 11:00pm....In your place I will save the money for the hotel, ask your friend to pick you up at the airport and on the following day offer him a dinner in a top restaurant
in Amalfi or Sorrento...It would be easier!
