Regarding dining in Lyon:
I've been there three times, two of them as a guest for the "Bocuse D'Or", and in my opinion Lyon is one of THE most high quality food oriented cities in the world, especially when compared to its rather modest size. In general, do be prepared for hearty food..
Do stay clear of Paul Bocuse's restaurant.. Michelin will never dare to pull any of his 3*, but should...
I'd rather go for Leon de Lyon or one of the really fast rising stars "Le BecFin (Like the one in Philly), especially for lunch when they offer terrific value.
The newly opened Brasserie L'Ouest also offers terrific value.
One of the high points of anyone's culinary career could be Troisgros in Rouanne, approx. 60km to the northwest of Lyon.. Wonderful, light cuisine and a wine cellar to die for a couple of times. Once again, terrific value for lunch..
