Also, any insight into the cabanas - how much are they, where are they located and are they worth considering if we are really anti-sun people. For example, we got a gazebo for all 7 days while at the Sheraton Maui and were so glad we did b/c shade was rather hard to find...and at the $60-75/day we felt like it was money more than well spent.
Taxis and other transportation companies are cheaper, but we've always just booked transportation through the hotel. On our last trip it was right around $90 each way, which I didn't think was too bad for almost an hour ride.
The hotel uses a taxi service with Lincoln navigators for all transportation around the resort and into Punta Mita. I think it was $10 each way for a taxi into Punta Mita. We ate in the city a few times on our first few trips, but now with kids, we stick mostly to the resort (which I thought had pretty decent prices for a luxury resort).
Unless you have to have a cabana I think they are a waste of money here. There are always plenty of chairs and umbrellas and the beach and pool attendants will move umbrellas all day to keep you in the shade if you want. There are a few cabanas over by the adult pool and then there are several along the beach. There are also some areas on the beach, which are shaded by trees so you can also put your chairs under those to add an additional layer of sun protection.
