Currently have AA award on hold for Japan Airline between SFO and KIX with a connection in HND.
SFO to HND arriving 5am, departing HND at 7:15am to KIX;
KIX to HND arriving at 22:25pm, departing HND at 00:05am for SFO.
I understand that I need to switch terminals at HND. Would there be sufficient time, especially on the return? Will the luggage be checked all the way through both ways?

You will need to pick up you luggage and clear customs when arriving in Japan. In the other direction it will be checked through.
