I don't recall too much of interest in Bonn itself, but that was quite a while ago when it was still West Germany's capital city. Lots of government buildings, embassies, and clean if staid buildings.
After a quick city tour, my hosts took me on a drive to nearby Köln and medieval Aachen. I otherwise had a very peaceful time reading in their Bad Godesberg living room, watching the barges plying the Rhein river.
The riverside train, boat, or car ride can be quite romantic when conditions are right.
