That's not really on, perhaps just tell them you'll gladly put your coat under the seat, if they can show you its yellow tag...or get an exit row and just smile sweetly at them when identifyng yourself as the owner.

I think you were just unlucky with this CC member, this is really not something I hear on BA. Have heard this request/instruction on LCCs though.

I do use the coat hook on the seats, but only for jackets, not larger coats.
