I flew in Y in the 60s and still remember the flight. It was great.
My father flew with them to Cairo in the 40s from Rome as TWA was full. He was also impressed.
I think they went downhill as I understand correctly.
It was nationalized in the 1970s by the Govt of India and was no longer a customer focused airline as it was under Ratan Tata.
I flew them once in the 1980s - never more.
It is mind boggling that when SQ started, they were modeled after Air India for customer service !!!
