Not when it comes to IRROPs, IME. For example, I have landed in my connection city, turned on the UA app only to find the "Important Update About Your Flight" banner appear, and then 30 seconds later get a text from UA indicating that the flight had been cancelled, or the system spotted a potential mis-connect.

However, as other people have said, I normally use the flight status part of the app to verify the correct gate information.
