The Botanical Gardens are about 15 minutes (fast) walk to, say, the Plaza Mayor - probably more like 20 minutes. You've got to cross Paseo del Prado and unless your timing is perfect waiting to cross could take a few minutes too. But as someone said in your other thread, the hotel you're considering is on the west side of Paseo del Prado so you won't have to cross, just walk up Calle de Atocha to Plaza Mayor.
