The benefit of a single ticket is that you can check your bag through to CNX which is an international airport. VN and TG have a bag interlining agreement. You will just have to go through security and immigration at BKK and move to the domestic side of the airport. There is a special itin within BKK airport to do it.
If on two separate tickets VN might still accept to check your bag through, or they might not.
