When we went, it took a week just to get through Istanbul.

We did take a one day boat trip up to the Bosphorus back. Not worth the effort.

We thought about Ephesus, but:

My guide book describes the drive to Izmar as an exhausting 7-8 hour 411 mile drive.
The train is 10-12 hours.
