When I inserted the card, prior to entering the PIN, the screen displayed a button with the text "US DEBIT", with no other options. If Macy's wasn't forcing EMV debit cards to run through debit networks, I would think the screen would have displayed two buttons. I didn't try pressing Cancel when I entered the PIN, since I didn't want to risk cancelling the transaction and delaying the line. The PIN screen made no mention of pressing Cancel for Credit.
