The thing to remember is that after May 15, International or not, the domestic portions of the international ticket are separate from the International portions. Domestically, the seats are considered an upgrade, not a purchased item, unless you purchase it prior to ticketing. I would be prepared to also have this change for International flights by years end (as soon as they work out the bugs on the domestic side). It will happen. It seems that many phone agents are confused by the new policy and they may have issues for a while.
The policy will probably rarely affect me but good to know so I don't flip out in the rare case it does. Looks like the agent hooked me up in this particular case.
