The "5pts/$ spend" spend is for spending at Marriott properties. Otherwise it's only one Marriott Rewards point per one dollar of spend.
Drawing a blank on the MR card...does food charged to the room while staying at a Marriott property also get the 10x base + elite status bonus? For some reason I was thinking it didn't, which would also be different from SPG. Thanks.
