The text of the guarantee says nothing about suite/non-suite, so it is unclear whether this is included in the guarantee, rather than bed type. I agree that it would be logical for it to be included. Same with "ocean view," "larger corner room," etc. I have, however, never noticed folks claiming the guarantee for these issues. It would be nice to know that they were included.
I don't think that the text of the guarantee says bed type in US/Canada but room (other than bed type) abroad. My guess is that if suite/non-suite and other stuff is covered elsewhere, it would be covered in the US as well. I believe that the reason that there is wiggle room in the bed type outside of the US is that 1. bed sizes are not standard around the world, and 2. some locations have very small rooms that will not accommodate king beds. I think this language is there to cover hotels that do not have the guest's preferred bed type in their inventory.
