With Star Alliance the operating airline determines ff earnings. Not the marketing airline (flight number)
Many Air NZ flights will earn nil or small %. Some earn only on the Air NZ ffp. The Air NZ frequent flyer program is not a good ffp (being polite)

For flights NZ Australia better to select by price & schedule and not freq flyer program.
