blairvanhorn, thanks for the suggestion. I've read about the island and a Brasilian travel magazine rates the top 2 beaches in all of Brasil are there. It sounds like a great place but I think I'll keep it for when I use FF miles (AA/TAM) from the States as the airfares out of Brasil are a bit high.

I think I'll just drive the coast north and explore. Sometimes that works out the best to find new places.
