I believe this is incorrect. There's a thread over in the AA forum (can't find it right now) that details how whatever system AA has to calculate this has been messed up recently. AA is aware of the issue and is going to be rerunning the calculations in batches.
So EQM minimum is still 500 miles, it's just not being calculated correctly right now.
