The only explanation I can concoct is that some WAS business-class regular complained about having to hike all the way to the far end of the platform to board. If that's it, then it's idiotic, and I say that as a Quiet Car aficionado who always hikes to the far platform end at WAS without complaint.
Same with BOS. I agree that it is idiotic, because then they have to walk the furthest if getting off at WAS or BOS. I'd rather be the first one off!
