Yes, but compared to the total number of passengers and flights in a mileage plus year, this is a fairly rare occurrence.

Personally, I don't think boarding group, award redeposit, or most other benefits are so critical that they can't wait another day or two. It's a one-time thing if you're changing status AND have that need in the middle of an itinerary. SDC and lounges are moderately more important but I just don't think those minor benefits that would impact this very small sample of people who have all these things occur within a 48 hour period is worth re-programming or upgrading the system for.

And I rarely defend UA's IT!
