I went once and that was enough. The republic, not so much the airport. Is it a tough place to transit in? Is it worse than a T5-T3 transit?
Sure your route has merit, depending on the passenger, though availability to ATL from IST is more or less daily.
As far as I can tell LHR-DFW (or IAH) is more than once daily (the OP doesn't want to go to ATL, but is looking for an open return IAH/DFW) and the return via PUJ also seems to work for most days. In fact, I haven't yet found one that doesn't work, but admittedly I have not checked that many.
Also with ATL the OP also needs to fly from ATL to DFW and from IAH back to ATL... 2 more transits.
