Anything is possible. But,
KENNECTED's point is an important one. The rules say that upgrades are based upon availability at the time of check in. However, many hotels will process upgrades a day or so in advance.
Hotels don't typically hand out upgrades weeks/months in advance. Doing that takes the upgraded room out of inventory, which means they can't sell it.
