To help with the bargaining, here is some background info:
- licensed Bangkok cabs all have yellow plates
- yellow and green cabs are owner-operated, red and blue ones company-owned. I usually find the latter are newer, but the former more safely driven
- a Bangkok cabbie makes 500-1,000THB a day. A driver of a company-owned cab must pay 500 baht to his company every day. Thus, the prospect of a >1,000 baht fare will be very attractive.
- fares to Pattaya can be lower than for equally distant destinations, as the cabbie has a hope of finding passengers on the way back.
