OP: I think it would depend on how excited you would be to be in F - presumably you'll be sleeping DXB-GLA and if you can sleep well in J on the 777 then you might feel you've missed out. That said, the DXB F lounge is very good but I daresay part of the F experience is being awake for the service!
Point to note for anyone else finding themselves in a similar situation. After upgrading the first leg to First, MMB still displayed the baggage allowance for J + Silver allowance for that leg and all following legs so no extra allowance.
And apologies in advance to anyone travelling ex PEK at the beginning of July in J class having to listen to a grown man sobbing his heart out because he doesn't have enough miles to upgrade to F again
