You know, it's getting tricky these days to even ship liquids. I know that the British post office no longer accepts a number of items, which has been really annoying. That was a year or so ago and I haven't bothered to try since. So do check with the shipping company/post office.
The Post Office acting on behalf of Royal Mail may decline to accept certain items, but this relies on you going to a counter to purchase postage and answering a question that is not always asked.
In practice this simply means that you will not receive compensation if your item is lost, and you declare that you had shipped a banned item.
