You are correct. This happens more often that travellers might think! I've had several 'diversions' at JFK into T4 due to late arrival of the BA183. It is usually the aircraft that is used for the BA178 day flight the next morning. I've had it pinched by a delayed BA176 that had mechanical problems, however, but it got us out of JFK and back to LHR...
